About the Blog

The thoughts and theories of a guy who basically should have gone to bed hours ago.

I know, I know - what's the point? But look at it this way - I stayed up late writing it, but you're reading it...

Let's call ourselves even & move on, OK?

What the Hell?

A man was arrested today for jumping the White House fence. Check out this quote:

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said agents took any breach seriously but that the suspect, who had climbed the White House fence three times before, made 'no spoken threats' against the president.

Zahren identified the man as Brian Lee Patterson, 40, and said he would be charged with unlawful entry and contempt of court, for violating a court order to stay away from the White House after he last intruded in February.

Who had climbed the WHite House fence three times before?!?!? Your third offense for that is a court order to stay away from the White House? What will they give him this time, a jay-walking ticket?

Obviously, the guy isn't exactly learning his lesson...

  • Talk about an in-your-face diss: even though you've broken into the White House four times, the Secret Service still deems you such a negligable risk that they don't bother to jail you.

Then again, remember the guys who broke the no-fly zone? Nothing happened to them either. Kind of makes you wonder, compared to the massive penalties being handed out elsewhere. Might make the cynical wonder if media coverage has anything to do with it.

  • In the interest of fairness, he didn't break into the White House; he jumped the White House fence. This is significant in that, I'm pretty sure I could jump the White House fence if I really, really wanted to (and I'm not exactly what one would call athletic).

That being said, I agree with you completely - if "MAN JUMPS WHITE HOUSE FENCE FOR THE FOURTH TIME" was the banner headline in the New York Times, the guy would be in jail for life (or worse).

  • Actually, I'm proposing the other way around. This guy is clearly not in possession of all his marbles, so he might generate some sympathy. My supposition is that he's getting better treatment because he's in the news. It's the ones we don't hear about that get tossed in jail for decades.
