Getting Along with Everybody

Well, some of my regular readers (one in particular) will find this fascinating. It seems I’m a left-leaning moderate:

Your views call for roughly same amount of goverment and liberty that we have today, for both personal and economic issues.

It appears that you are relatively happy with the status quo. However, this could be wrong if you averaged out to the center by opting for a an equal mix of big and small government positions, vs. opting for mostly moderate positions.

Approximately 6% of the takers of this quiz scored in this area, 36% for all within the centrist circle.

Now, to be fair, I think this quiz paints with very broad brushes, and had it been weighed more heavily on fiscal matters and/or foreign policy, my yellow dot would likely have moved to the right a bit. Nonetheless, at least someone out there thinks I’m a left-leaning & happy with the status quo…

    Yeah, I find this amusing. Took the test myself, and unsurprisingly, if centrist is (0,0) and the conservative corner is (5,5), my results were (-4.25,-3.25).

    That said, I thought the supplied answers were a bit forced. Most of my views which trend towards the libertarian corner weren’t expressed properly — so the *closest* option I had was the liberal answer. Call me somewhere between “miffed” and “outright annoyed” that I’m pigeonholed as being in favor of “less economic freedom”. Hogwash.

    But here’s where I think the biggest flaw lies: it seems to make all views equally important. I take it as given that you and I agree on perhaps 80% of the social agenda — but our wide disparities on the use of military power and America’s role in the world is what puts us at the opposite ends of the political spectrum. That certainly seems to be downplayed here.

    Jeff – actually, there was a bit at the end about what you find more important, etc. I think we’re agreeing, though, that we don’t see those preferences coming through in the results very well, though…
