Brain Celebri-teasers: Solution
Thursday, January 27th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #4 puzzle:
Week #4 | |
Category: | Movies/TV |
Difficulty: | Medium |
Clue: | These guys are a couple of late, great comedians |
Answer: | |
I don’t want to start any rumors here – Jay & Conan are very much alive. They are, however, “late, great” comedians, in that they participated in yet another epic, late night battle for host of NBC’s venerable Tonight Show, a position that Jay won, lost, and then won again. Conan’s holding his own over on TBS, though, especially given his basic cable budget! |
The winner this week was Jeff Porten!
After four weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Ilya | 2 | 4 |
Mike | 2 | 3 |
Jeff Porten | 2 | 3 |
Konstantin | 0 | 2 |
Jim | 0 | 1 |
Jason | 0 | 1 |
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

Brain Celebri-teasers: Solution
Thursday, January 20th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #3 puzzle:
Week #3 | |
Category: | Politics |
Difficulty: | Easy |
Clue: | For a while, these two women shared a twin billing in Washington |
Answer: | |
Hillary and Monica certainly made political news back in the late 1990’s. Hillary, of course, is making more (and better) news these days as our Secretary of State. Monica is (thankfully) out of the public eye. The “twin billing” referred to in the clue is, of course, Bill Clinton, who they both (ahem…) shared during that crazy time. |
The winner this week was Mike!
After three weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Ilya | 2 | 3 |
Mike | 2 | 2 |
Jim | 0 | 1 |
Jeff Porten | 0 | 2 |
Konstantin | 0 | 1 |
Jason | 0 | 1 |
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

Brain Celebri-teasers: Solution
Thursday, January 13th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #2 puzzle:
Week #2 | |
Category: | Music |
Difficulty: | Medium |
Clue: | For many, these two ladies represent the country’s best… |
Answer: | |
Both Taylor and Carrie have won Best Artist honors at the Country Music Awards, making them the “country’s best,” as it said in the clue. Carrie, of course, also won the top prize on American Idol, so she’s been the country’s best in that sense as well. |
The winner this week was Ilya!
It’s occurring to me, two weeks in, that multiple people are getting the puzzle right each week. And while there should be a prize for being first, correct answers should be recognized. So, I’m tweaking the standings a little to reflect both points and correct answers. Don’t worry, though – at the end of the year, most points still wins!
So, that being said, after two weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Ilya | 2 | 2 |
Mike | 1 | 1 |
Jim | 0 | 1 |
Jeff Porten | 0 | 1 |
Konstantin | 0 | 1 |
Jason | 0 | 0 |
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

Brain Celebri-teasers: Week #2
Monday, January 10th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. This is Week #2. Here’s this week’s puzzle:
Week #2 | |
Category: | Music |
Difficulty: | Medium |
Clue: | For many, these two ladies represent the country’s best… |
OK, so in Week #2, we’re moving up to our first Medium difficulty puzzle. Obviously, the difficulty levels are subjective, but I’m trying to define “Medium” as a puzzle in which one of the two people may be fairly obvious, but the other may be harder to figure out. Because it’s harder, two points will be awarded to the commenter with the first correct response…
Remember – the solution will be posted on Thursday, so you have 3-4 days to guess. Put your answer in the comments section – first comment (by timestamp) wins.
Now that the contest is over, you can click here to see the answer.
Good luck!

The Young Trumpet Player Within the Crowd
Friday, January 7th, 2011Continuing my recent tradition of having very little to say and instead filling space with pictures, I present this (predominantly for my Penn friends). Can you spot the ten-year old amongst the slew of college students? Makes a father proud, it does…
Two notes:
First: his brother, who also makes his father proud, was below and to the right of the frame, teaching himself the drum parts to all the Penn songs (age 8).
Second: the Penn Band Sousaphones rock…

Brain Celebri-teasers: Solution
Thursday, January 6th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #1 puzzle:
Practice Week #2 | |
Category: | Sports |
Difficulty: | Easy |
Clue: | These two guys were known throughout the sports world for their biting commentary |
Answer: | |
Muhammad Ali was as famous for sparring with the likes of Howard Cosell as he was for his boxing in the ring. He was, after all, “The Greatest,” and was never shy about saying so. Mike Tyson, on the other hand, was more known for commentary about biting, rather than “biting commentary,” per se. Just ask Evander Holyfield. |
The winner this week was Mike!
After one week, the standings are, well, rather straight forward:
Mike | 1 |
4 Others | 0 |
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!
