2007 Superbowl Ads
By Brian | February 6, 2007 | Share on Facebook
For those who dis the commercials in public, but then really want to watch them over & over again in private, here’s a site that contains all the 2007 Superbowl Ads. Go ahead, I won’t tell a soul. I promise…
And as long as I’m here, I might as well run through my own personal awards show:
Funniest Spot goes to the short clip of Oprah & Dave sitting on the couch together. Subtle, but hilarious.
Most Clever goes to the Chevrolet ad, for mixing together all the songs with the Chevy products in them. Although, I gotta admit – the first song I would have thought of if they asked me would have been American Pie (“drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry…”). You think maybe they left it out to avoid mentioning levees post-Katrina? Billy Joel’s got a Chevrolet mention too (Captain Jack: “You got your tapedeck, and your brand new Chevrolet”). Probably too obscure for most people, though…
Most Disturbing was a tie: the naked guys washing cars and the comeover beard dude. Shudder…

Disturbing: American Heart Association (although it was better than any drug ad so far). GM Robot.
Too Dumb: All Bud Light (excepting Hitchhiker). Sierra Mist.
Are there a bunch of ads on that site that weren’t in the Super Bowl? I thought I was watching carefully, and we paused the TiVo when we left the room.
Also, I was surprised not to learn from you that Billy Joel was performing the National Anthem. At first, I thought he was messing it up, but then I realized those were embellishments, not wrong notes.
“Captain Jack will get you high tonight…”
As for the embellishments, I certainly defer to your superior musical ear, but I thought the entire first line was way out of tune (particularly the low note at the beginning). Not that I can blame him – playing a piano in the rain with a stadium sound system blaring back at him & all. Also, I think you’d probably do a better job hitting (& holding) the high note at the end.
IMHO, he should stick to rock & roll and leave the anthem to Whitney…
Here’s my question: we all know the guy can sing. Why use the AutoTune in the first place? Concern over the stadium echo?
He’d have been better off pre-recording it…
