Lawyer: Ma’am, you say you saw the car accident happen in broad daylight. Can you tell us, please, was there a man in a bear suit doing the moonwalk next to the car when the accident occurred?
Witness: No. I’m sure I’d have seen it if it was there…
Lawyer: What were you doing at the time?
Witness: Why, right before that all happened, someone asked me out of the blue to keep the exact count of the passerbys who were wearing pink-ribbon hats… He said it was a test, and I was doing my best to ace it.
I just cannot believe that without being forcefully distracted by a task that requires focus, you would miss something that is obviously out of place…
If there is a similar test that instructs simply “Watch the video”, and people still miss the incongruity, then I would be convinced…
