A Shout Out to the Accenture Alumni

I don’t normally post things here that only make sense to a select few people (normally, what I post makes sense to nobody! Hah!), but last night I attended Accenture’s annual alumni reception, and we spent a disturbingly high percentage of the time talking about blogs, Facebook, and other social networking tools. In the course of it, I promised I’d blog about some people, so here goes:

To Rich Wasch, who surprised me by telling me he reads this blog often – nice to have you here. I hope you like what you read and enjoy your upcoming travels!

To Suzanne Carlson and Jeff Turner, it was great seeing you last night. And don’t worry, I’m still adamantly refusing to join Facebook, so I won’t be clogging up your status page with the minutia of my life.

And to Steve Cooper, about whom I promised to blog something nasty (after he promised that he would never, ever read my blog), let’s just say that if I ever meet your wife, I have a story I can tell her about her about how her pregnant friends use Facebook.

Oh, and a special shoutout to Jennifer Ippoliti, who I know reads this blog. I saw you & waved to you, but never got to stop by & say hello. Let’s do lunch!

OK, the trap is set. Now let’s see how well Google and the various social networks of the web do their job of drawing the above people here to read and comment.

    Hey Brian,

    No need for google to search me out. I had a feeling that you would blog about the event, and I my instincts were right. (Ok, maybe you said you would blog about the event but I might of missed your comment between the glasses of wine and spoons of little food appetizers that they served.)

    Out of curiosity, I googled myself today (search term: “suzanne carlson facebook”) to see if my Facebook page shows up. It doesn’t, at least not high enough for me to find. What did turn up at position #2 is a site called “www.isthisyour.name” with an excerpt and link for this blog entry. That site got its results from Google Blog Search. Google’s efficiency is getting a little frightening.

    Two months later, your adamant refusal to join Facebook is pretty hilarious!

    Hey, Suzanne – yes, the awesome magnet power of Google is quite a sight to behold (or would that be a “site to behold” – HA!). Anyway, yes, I caved big time & joined facebook. My initial thoughts on it are here. Now, all I need is Rich Wasch and Jen Ippoliti to come by & comment, and my trap will have caught all of its prey…

    Whoa … this is like a bizarre internet scavenger hunt! I was just on Facebook and noticed that Joina Liao (Accenture) had posted an album of photos she had found of herself while googling herself. I immediately googled myself for images and found none (being the internet privacy freak that I am) … but I did find a photo of your home renovation. Wondering why on earth my name was associated with a photo of your house, I came to this page, and voila … the net tightens!

    Now how do we get Steve Cooper? (and, when are we doing lunch?)

    Cooper’s messaged me through Facebook, but not here on the blog post (you know those Tech geeks – always ready to violate the standards…). Rich Wasch still hasn’t chimed in, but I’m not giving up hope.

    Anyway, I consider the experiment a qualified success. If you write something about someone & post it on the Internet, they will eventually see it…
