Thursday, March 31st, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #13 puzzle:
Week #13 | |
Category: | Sports |
Difficulty: | Medium |
Clue: | These two guys embody what the madness is all about |
Answer: | |

Unquestionably two of the greatest basketball players of all time, Michael Jordan famously came from the University of North Carolina, whose boxer shorts he supposedly wore under his uniform during every NBA game he ever played. Lebron James famously came from St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, which, as has now been repeatedly pointed out, makes him a little inappropriate for a post on NCAA March Madness. In my defense, though, recent events surrounding Lebron James can very accurately be described by the term “madness,” especially if you happen to live in Cleveland, Ohio.
So, no extra points, but I will credit Ilya for a correct answer, despite his qualified response… |
The winner this week was Suzanne!
After thirteen weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Mike | 8 | 6 |
Suzanne | 7 | 4 |
Hilary | 3 | 1 |
Ilya | 2 | 10 |
Konstantin | 2 | 6 |
Jeff Porten | 2 | 3 |
Jim | 0 | 1 |
Jason | 0 | 2 |
Harmon | 0 | 1 |
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

Meghan McCain and Bristol Palin both became quite noteworthy during the last Presidential election, and not always for the reasons they’re famous parents would have wanted. |
The winner this week was Suzanne (who also said some nice things about my Photoshop skills. Thanks, Suzanne!)!
After twelve weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Mike | 8 | 6 |
Suzanne | 5 | 3 |
Hilary | 3 | 1 |
Ilya | 2 | 9 |

Harmon | 0 | 1 |
EDITOR’S NOTE: I was once again late in posting the results this week – shame on me. You all get your money back. Oh wait, this is free. OK, then just shame on me. Kidding aside, I’m trying to automate this so I never run late – the answers are tougher because I have to wait to see who guessed before posting. But I’ll keep working on it…
Thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

Brain Celebri-teasers: Solution – Week #11
Sunday, March 20th, 2011Welcome back to Brain Celebri-teasers. It’s time to reveal the solution to our Week #11 puzzle:

Clue: | These two guys would often have trouble being serious |
Answer: | |

Only two guesses this week, befitting a couple of “jokers” like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. Ironically, these two guys would likely never be put in the same sentence, except for their sharing of an iconic film role. And now, they’ll be forever linked, at least in Internet posts like this… |
The winner this week was Konstantin!
After eleven weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Mike | 8 | 6 |
Suzanne | 3 | 2 |
Hilary | 3 | 1 |
Ilya | 2 | 9 |
Konstantin | 2 | 5 |
Jeff Porten | 2 | 3 |
Jim | 0 | 1 |
Jason | 0 | 2 |
Harmon | 0 | 1 |
EDITOR’S NOTE: Sorry for being late in posting the results this week – I was traveling and didn’t have an opportunity to tally the scores. I’ll try to be more punctual in the future…
As always, thanks for playing, everyone! Remember to check back on Monday for next week’s puzzle!

The Top Ten YouTube Videos of All Time
Sunday, March 20th, 2011A friend of mine just sent me a link to the Top Ten YouTube Videos of All Time. Reviewing the list, I realized that I hadn’t seen any of them, so I sat myself down and watched them all.
Below the cut, you’ll find links to each video, along with a few of my thoughts on each one (WARNING: Contains Bieber)

President Obama’s 2011 NCAA Bracket
Thursday, March 17th, 2011Another one of Google’s oddities struck yesterday: well over 500 of you wound up at my site by searching for “obama bracket” or something similar. I posted his 2010 and 2009 picks here in past years, and Google Images has somehow ranked me #2 in its search results for my efforts. So, while it might be too late, I don’t want to be the guy who disappoints 500 more people, so here you go. The 2011 picks from the Prognosticator in Chief:

I knew this one would be easy to guess. What’s amazing about these guys is how they started out being compared to each other because of their mutual blindness, but are now also compared because of their mutual musical genius. It will be a long time before such talent comes around again… |

After ten weeks, the standings are as follows:
Player | Points | Correct Answers |
Mike | 8 | 6 |
Suzanne | 3 | 2 |
