What Kind of Accent Do You Have?

By Brian | December 2, 2006 | Share on Facebook

Well, this is pretty impressive. 13 questions & no audio involved, and this thing not only figured out that I speak with a Northeast accent, but that I’m “from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island.”

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

“Boston” accent for me, which I guess is not part of the Northeast. Go figure.

When it comes to accents, Boston isn’t a part of the Northeast, anymore than Florida is a part of the south…

The quiz correctly pegged me as coming from The West. Interesting… I tend to hear subtle differences between urban and rural accents here in Utah, and between Utah and California accents, but I guess this quiz wasn’t sophisticated enough to pick up on that.

Totally nailed me as 100% Philly, without even asking how I pronounce water.

Jeff, how do you pronounce “water” in Philly?
