One Last Thing: The Parade…

OK, one last post about the Yankees winning the World Series and then I’ll stop. I promise. But today was the famous “Parade Down the Canyon of Heroes” in New York, and thanks to the annual New Jersey Teacher’s Convention, my kids did not have school today. So as it turned out, I was the one who played hooky, and we all went and saw a parade. An extra special, heartfelt thanks to the very generous people on the corner of Broadway & John Street who, right before the parade started, decided to allow my kids (and my wife and I) to move right up to the front of the crowd – allowing them (and my camera) fantastic views of the proceedings.

    Interesting coincidence: I was just wondering a few days ago if they still did ticker-tape parades. Looks like they don’t drop nearly as much confetti as in the old newsreels I’ve seen, though…

    uug, you were part of that mess willingly?
    this was so much worse than the giants parade. The police did a lot more corraling and crowd control that day and I just had to show a cop my work id to get on the sidestreet to a side entrance to my building. today I had to push hard through the mass of people to get to work.

    @jason #1: we were making the same comment during the parade – less confetti this year. My wife suggested maybe folks were “going green.” I think it has to do with how much less paper actually goes around offices these days. Ticker Tape itself hasn’t been around in years…

    @Jason #2: There were a lot more people at this than at the Giants’ parade. I have an office on Broadway too, and considered going inside, but it would have been difficult to get to the front door as well. Good day to either work from home or take the day off…
