Some Christmas (Bronx) Cheer…

OK, quick Christmas quiz: when you see a guy on the streets of New York dressed up like a popular children’s character, carrying a bag that says “Tips,” and harassing tourist families for money, what’s the first word that comes to mind?

Answer: Pooh.

    Kinda surprised that you managed to get that picture before Disney lawyers had him taken out with a sniper rifle.

    And his shirt even has to say “Pooh” because he doesn’t actually look all that much like him (the Disney version, I mean – he doesn’t look ANYTHING like the original Shepherd illustrations; there was actually a brief moment around 13 or so years ago when Disney marketed a “Classic Pooh” line based on those illustrations, and I confess, with babe in arms, to buying a fair amount of it even though we had little money then to spare on things like that, but I was utterly charmed by creatures and pictures and even a bath mat that looked like the characters I thought of as Pooh and his friends).
